Following the death of Rev. Robert Nixon the pictures passed to 'Dr. Nixon' (Art Journal 1864 p267). It is the 1920 McCormic Sale that states the picture passed to Dr H D Nixon, Bishop of Tasmania, and it was assumed that the 'H D' was just a mistake. Robert's eldest child was a son, GeorgeRussell. Francis Russell was the second son.The third wasWyatt Russell. None of Robert's children were 'Dr H D' . Recalling the 'erroneous' initial 'J' (Art Journal 1864 p267) - all the sources allude to the Rev. Robert Nixon to Rev. Dr. Francis Russell Nixon line of descent. There is nothing whatever to link JMW Turner to any 'J Nixon'. However, from this point on there must be at least a little doubt about ownership and therefore locations (but no doubt regarding 1864 sales and the dates thereof; even if the pictures passed to one of the other sons then those pictures were definitely sold in 1864).

like the coast scene is bought in but neither of these are marked as
drawings which as they are in Graves would place them as oils. This comes
before the Drake sale (1891). Not in Redford although there are other
entries for 1886
Graves has several Griffiths sales in 1887.

This is reference to a 1977 auction that included a drawing of Rev. Robert Nixon's Studio. An image of the drawing was found but it did not show any sign of the St. Vincent's Rock Oil.
